The Canadian Polish Congress applauds the second reading passage of Bill 18: An Act to proclaim the month of May as Polish Heritage Month in Ontario

The Canadian Polish Congress welcomes the unanimous second reading vote in favour of Bill 18: An Act to proclaim the month of May as Polish Heritage Month by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on November 4, 2021.

The following supportive statement from President John J. Tomczak was read into the official Parliamentary record (Hansard) by the sponsor of the Bill, MPP Christine Hogarth (Etobicoke Lakeshore):

“The Canadian Polish Congress welcomes the introduction of Bill 18 in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to establish Polish Heritage Month in the Province of Ontario. As the organization representing the over 1.2 million Polish Canadians across Canada – as many as half of whom live in Ontario – we are happy that the many historic and ongoing contributions of Ontarians of Polish descent will be officially recognized and celebrated each May. Thank you to MPP Christine Hogarth and MPP John Yakabuski for leading this important initiative.”

In addition to the co-sponsors, we are grateful to all other Members of Provincial Parliament who spoke in favour of this motion, including the Hon. Kaleed Rasheed (Associate Minister of Digital Government), MPP Natalia Kusendova-Bashta (Mississauga Centre), MPP Bhutila Karpoche (Parkdale-High Park), MPP Ian Arthur (Kingston and the Islands), MPP Robin Martin (Eglinton Lawrence), and MPP Rudy Cuzzetto (Mississauga Lakeshore).
