Appeal to the Polish community and media in North America
Dear Friends,
On September 3, 2025, the President of the Republic of Poland will visit the United States.
This is a unique opportunity for the voice of the Polish diaspora in America and Canada to be heard on matters of great importance for our shared memory and historical justice.
We wish to draw your attention to the situation of those who were persecuted and
imprisoned as anti-communist opposition activists between 1980–1983, many of whom
were forced into exile and lived for decades in the USA, Canada, and other countries.
For 36 years of the Third Republic of Poland, successive governments – both right-wing
(PiS) and liberal (PO) – avoided addressing the issue of proper compensation for this group.
This was often explained by fear of questioning the political compromises of the “Round
Table” and the so-called “Magdalenka agreements.” As a result, the heroes of the struggle for a free Poland still feel discriminated against and forgotten by the very state for which they sacrificed their freedom and family life.
Therefore, we appeal to you – representatives of the Polish diaspora, organizations, and
media in North America – to ask the President of Poland clear and fair questions during his
upcoming visit:
1. Will President Karol Nawrocki, during his term in office, introduce real changes
in state policy towards those who were repressed as anti-communist activists?
2. Has the President reviewed the proposed legislative changes (“PROJECT 2025”),
delivered to him on July 29, 2025, and does he intend to support them?
Your voice – the voice of free Poles in North America – can play a decisive role in breaking
the silence that has lasted for decades.
Respectfully,
Stanislaw Frej. NDOA:Niekoncesjonowani Dzialacze Opozycji Antykomunistycznej. Canada. leg#10280.
